Animals appear green. If you hold alt, you might be able to see a lvl 3-5 animal that's just walking around.
You can also kill them... kind of entertaining actually.

There is a big difference between tameable animals and animals ingeneral in the guild wars world ^^
A tameable animal will appear with it's name in green and will most likely be wandering around with no specific pathing. On the nightfall nooby island alone I know there are crocodiles and flamingos at least however there are most likely alot more that are there and I never took the time to find them on my ranger ^^

If you tame an animal you can level it up to 20 in one of three evolutions (dire=high damage/low armor/low health, hearty=low damge/high health/medium armor, elder=medium survivability etc.) At any point in this process of evolution you can turn your tamed animal in at a pet tamer who will rid you of it so that you can go out and capture another animal to train ^^

Well, if your pet does consistently more damage than you it will evolve to dire. So yea, I would recommend low lvl zones to start with if you are using a new pet and no, your new pet will not keep the same level as your last pet.

You'll have to 'farm' (or quest) with the pet to give him the experience to level up. Choose enemies about 5 levels above his for best results.

All evolutions have the same armor........
Dire has +15% damage and -60 health, Hearty has -15% damage and +60 health, Elder is no penalty or bonus either way.
For evolving to dire, go outside Ice Tooth Cave (or any place with level 10ish physical creatures, Skales outside Beknur Harbor might work), take a lot of pet buffs (Symbiotic Bond, Call of Protection, Otyugh's Cry, Life Bond) and Enraged Lunge and kill stuff.

Thanks
Yea, sorry about that maverick. I was just recalling the stats because it was the last post I made before a gvg, thanks for the correction. I'll remember it for the future. ^^
